Archie "Gene" E Simpson

Archie Eugene (Gene) Simpson was born November 8, 1947, in Columbus Kansas to Carl and Betty (Jarrett) Simpson. He is survived by his Wife Rhonda (McCormack) Simpson of the home. Sons Mike (Barb) Simpson - Mayetta and Heath Simpson - Topeka. Stepsons David (Wendy) Jones - Herington, Brett (Eka) Jones - Puyallup Washington, Martin (Jenny) Jones - San Antonio Texas, Adam (Felicia) Jones - Herington, Stepmother Pat Simpson - Topeka, and 13 grandkids. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Doug Simpson and sister Toni Sue Hampton.

He graduated from Topeka High, class of 1965, and attended KU. During the summers of his high school and college years he was a heavy equipment operator for different construction companies. He later dropped out of college to join the Navy. His dream was “any ship, any ocean” but ended up being flown to Vietnam where he served as a storekeeper, unloading ships in Chu Lai.

Upon returning home he married Brenda Williamson and soon became a foreman for BRB Contractors building water and wastewater treatment plants throughout the Midwest.

In 1982 he married Rhonda (McCormack) Jones in Weatherford, Texas. They both continued to work for BRB Contractors until December 1988. In 1989 they purchased the NAPA store in Herington, Kansas and continued to operate the store until they sold it in 2020.

Gene was a long-time member of the American Legion of Agra, Kansas and a lifetime member of the VFW in Herington. He joined the Methodist church at an early age.
