Betty Marie Hasenbank

Betty Marie Cotton Hasenbank lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, kindness, and joy. A devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother, and faithful friend, Betty leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through her family.

Born to Gerald and Esther Cotton, Betty spent much of her life working hard and caring for others. She was a longtime caregiver at local nursing homes, a proud Avon Lady, and a newspaper carrier for the Newton Kansan always dependable, compassionate, and ready with a smile.

To remember Betty is to remember a woman who worked hard and loved even harder. She enjoyed knitting blankets for those she loved, playing Rummy and Farkle, listening to Elvis, collecting elephants, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and, most of all, dancing.

Her faith was an important part of her life. She attended Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion and First Baptist Church in Newton and was involved with the Happy Losers Club and Westside Ladies of Kansas Christian Home.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her children, Ron Hasenbank and wife Bee of Newton; DeAnna Ouderkirk and husband Kevin of Lenexa; Eric Hasenbank of Hillsboro; and Laura Schmidt and husband Doug of Hillsboro.

Betty's grandchildren include Kelly Benson and husband Tyler, Chris Hasenbank and wife Dena, Josh Hasenbank, J.W. Wilder, Chelsea Williams, Ashley Laws, Cody Hiebert, Zach Williams, Cory Hiebert, Angela Rodgers and husband Joshua, Jeremy Hasenbank, Thomas Hasenbank, Juston Buster, Tyler Ouderkirk and wife Kalli, Coreyann Terronez and husband Chris, Brandon Hiebert, Brian Hiebert, Lindsay Ouderkirk and her fiancé Tyler, Mickey Kauffman, Louis Hasenbank, and Makenna Hasenbank.

Her great-grandchildren include Ben and Landin Benson; Jonah Wilder; Luke, Levi, Ava, and Madyson Hasenbank; Daxx Ouderkirk; Nash Williams; Tate Ouderkirk; and Jonah and Adrian Rodgers.

Betty also leaves behind a large extended family, including brothers-in-law Lyle Hasenbank and wife Paulette of Eskridge; Larry Hasenbank and wife Sandy of Topeka; Diana Hasenbank of Marion; Rick Hasenbank of Eskridge; and Lou Ward of Wamego, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gary Hasenbank; daughter, Sheena Kaufman; parents, Gerald and Esther Cotton; sisters, Maria Jones and Patty Davis; brother, Gerald Cotton; and several beloved members of the Hasenbank family.

Betty will be remembered for her beautiful smile, caring heart, deep faith, and ability to find joy in life's ordinary moments.

She has finished her work, kept her faith, and gone home to the Lord. Somewhere beyond our sight, we can imagine Betty smiling and dancing once again.

Her life was a blessing. Her faith was an example. Her love was a gift. Her legacy lives on.
