Carolyn Sue Wright

Carolyn Sue Wright, 83, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, Kansas. She was born on September 15, 1943 in Centerview, Kansas to Harold Newsom and June Darlington Newsom.

Carolyn grew up near Lewis, Kansas. She loved growing up on the farm and having horses. She attended Lewis High School and graduated with the class of 1961. She received her BA degree in Education from Sterling College in 1965. After college, Carolyn moved to Wyoming and taught 4th grade before moving back to Kansas and teaching at an elementary school in Sterling. Carolyn married Hubbard (Tubby) Wright in 1969. In 1972, they adopted their daughter, Kathleen Idelle Wright, at 4 days old. Carolyn was immensely proud that her daughter, Katie, followed in her footsteps to become a teacher. Carolyn treasured being a homemaker and mother and made all her bread, cakes, and pies from scratch. Carolyn was a pianist and taught piano lessons for many years. She enjoyed serving her church, spinning wool, knitting, crocheting, and weaving. Carolyn loved attending the Kansas State Fair to watch all the equine events and to give spinning demonstrations in the Kansas building. Carolyn and Tubby also enjoyed watching Rodeos together and attending their granddaughter, Taylor’s, school and dance performances.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents Harold and June Newsom; spouse, Tubby Wright who passed in 2014; 2 sons who passed at birth; and siblings Jeff (Zelma), Dean, and Keith Newsom.

Survivors include daughter Kathleen (Katie) Cope (Chuck) of Bel Aire, Kansas; stepdaughter Rebecca Jo (Robert) Chick of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren Taylor Wright of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lena, Bobbi, Julie, and Michael Chick all of Springfield, Missouri. Also, Kirk Hubenett and Chauncey Piper, friends who became family.
