Christian William Marsden, 13, of Marion, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the family who adored him.
From the very beginning, Christian was a miracle and a blessing. Doctors warned his parents, Matthew and Stacie Marsden, that he was unlikely to survive to delivery. But through God’s will and the prayers of so many, Christian entered the world on August 1, 2012.
Born non‑verbal, with significant medical challenges, Christian defied every expectation placed before him. Though doctors said he was blind, he would never walk, eat solid foods, or communicate, Christian proved to be a fighter from his very first breath. As he grew, so did his personality—bright, brave, and full of the sweetest giggles that could light up any room.
With the unwavering support of his family, friends, teachers, principals, medical staff, and the Marion, Hillsboro and St. Mary communities, as well as his Holy Family Parish, Christian flourished. He learned to communicate through sign language, took a few monumental steps despite spending most of his time in a wheelchair, and even learned to skateboard like a pro.
Christian’s happiest moments were spent playing with his big brothers, Austin and Cameron, and his little brother, Declan. He loved being outdoors, going to the zoo, traveling with his family, and experiencing the world in his own joyful way.
He was surrounded throughout his life by a large, close‑knit family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents who cherished him deeply. Christian also had a mischievous streak—he never cared much for wearing clothes and often preferred to be in a onesie, or nothing at all if he had his way.
As we lay him to rest, we find comfort in knowing he is with God, his Grandpa Don, and his Grandma Joyce—laughing, dancing, and finally free from the limitations he faced on earth. We are certain he has so much to say now, and we look forward to the day we hear all about his heavenly adventures and feel him guide us once again.
Christian, although your time with us was far too short, we are endlessly grateful for every precious moment. You brought immeasurable joy into our lives. You will never be forgotten, and we will celebrate you until we meet again.
The simplest pleasures brought Christian great joy. He was a kind soul, a gentle spirit, and a truly special boy.
Christian is survived by his loving parents Matthew and Stacie Marsden; his brothers Austin Marsden, Cameron Marsden, and Declan Marsden. His grandmother, Diana Hasenbank, his grandfather Richard William Marsden II, his Godmother, Tillie Schafers, and many, many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his Grandfather Donald Hasenbank, Grandmother Joyce Marsden, and Godfather, Anthony Schafers.
