Curtis E Cole

Curtis’s life began on January 25, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas. He was the son of Charlie “Shortie” and Georgia (Hunter) Cole. He spent time growing up on a farm in Lebanon Missouri, but came back to Kansas and graduated from Haysville High school in 1968. After high school he joined the army and was a decorated military police officer that reached the rank of E-4 during his time in the service.

Curtis suffered brain damage after a car accident in the military; which led to his recognition as a Disabled American Veteran. Despite his disabilities, he received an associates degree in Heating and Air, and used this knowledge and experience to work for various companies, but most memorable as a part-time help to Sunrise Christian Academy for many years as a maintenance man.

He passed away at the Kansas Veteran Home in Winfield, Kansas (Cowley County) on February 1, 2026 after a long battle with many health issues, but most notably his struggle with Epilepsy and Dementia.

Curtis is most remembered for his love of Elvis, 60’s music, and dancing. He loved Bill Gaither's old hymns, and loved talking about “Dragging Douglas [Avenue]” when he was younger.

He was a member in many clubs including: The Porsche Club, Walnut Valley Sailing Club, Chess Club, Boy Scouts, 4-H Club, Reflection Ridge Country Club, among others.

He was an active part in many church communities throughout his life Including Country Acres and most recently Central Christian Church in Wichita for 30 years where he helped in a mission trip to Russia in the late 1990’s, participated in bible study groups, and church choir.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, that he married in 2008. Also survived by his brother, Bill Cole, his children: Chad Cole, Casey Cole, Ashley McCreary, Rabeka Frantz, two stepchildren, 15 grand-children and 4 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Thursa Jarvis, his brother, George Cole, and prior wife, Beverly Cole. His family will gather with friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 am in Wichita, Kansas at Central Christian Church, and followed by his burial at White Chapel Memorial Garden.
