The family moved to Caldwell in 1966 after purchasing a Standard Oil filling station. Their daughter Danette was born in Caldwell in 1968.  After selling the filling station, Dale delivered fuel to farms for Standard Oil.  He purchased KanOkla Auto Supply and ran it for several years before working as a machinist in Wellington. In 1994, Dale and Betty moved to his hometown of Marion, KS where he became sexton at the Marion Cemetery.
