Eva-Marie Sabata

Eva-Maria Sabata passed away Friday, September 4, 2026 in Herington, Kansas.

She was born in Kalkar, Germany on March 1, 1963 to Ewald Gudrun (Brunhild) Derksen. She attended school in Kalkar and graduated in 1981.

She came to the United States in l983 after meeting her spouse, John Sabata while he was deployed in the service.

She attended K-State and graduated in 2007, and from Washburn University in 2008. She obtained several degrees over the years with her BSW, SMW, LSCSW. She was a Certified Addiction Counselor through The Pawnee Mental Health Center in Manhattan for 16 years. Eva-Maria was a do it yourselfer, taking care of the home and building a house from the foundation up. She was always finding ways of improving things. She loved taking care of her cats and was not one to sit idle. She was always looking for things to do and keep busy over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Heinrich Derksen.

She is survived by her spouse John Sabata of Herington; her partner Terry Schroeder of Herington; her son David Sabata of Herington; Daughter Sarah Sabata of Kansas City, MO; sister Christine Gartz (Franzel) of Germany; nieces Stephanie Jansen and Lisa-Maria (Bastian) Themmek.

The family will have a private family gathering at a later time and have an inurnment at a later time in Germany where Eva-Marie can be laid to rest with her family.
