Evelyn’s life began on January 31, 1929, in Ramona. She was the daughter of Godfrey and Olga (Hoeppner) Schneider, and graduated from Ramona High School. She was united in marriage to James “Fred” Edmonson on January 16, 1949, in Herington. Evelyn worked as an optometric assistant in Herington for many years and for several optometrists. She was a gifted artist. Evelyn painted Christmas ornaments that have hung in the White House, and the Smithsonian Institution. She was a World Champion hardanger stitchery artist. She contributed works to the Kansas Wheathearts, and her paintings have been admired by family and friends alike. She was a loving, devoted wife to her husband of 63 years, and a loving mother and grandmother. Evelyn loved her patio flowers and was a great cook- everything from scratch. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and listened to her Bible recordings every day for many years. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her sons Michael (Suzanne) Edmonson of Derby, and James (Deborah) Edmonson of Blair, NE; grandchildren Nathaniel Edmonson, Sophia Edmonson, Jammie (Dale) O’Dell, and Jason Czaplewski; great grandchildren Maddison and Morgan O’Dell, Kendall, Jordan, Ava, Colbie and Lyla Czaplewski; her sister Mary Ann Schlesener and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn passed away on Sunday October 5, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Health Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Arlene Schwemmer, Joyce Chartier, and Patricia Davis Ray. Her family will gather with friends on Friday October 10, 2025, from 9-10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Herington where her funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Jim Peters. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family.
