Everett Wayne Hubbard Everett Wayne Hubbard was born February 11, 1934 on his parents’ farm in Wilmore, Kansas to Everett Willard Hubbard and Maude Verona (Heck) Hubbard. Wayne was baptized at Wilmore Methodist Church.
At the age of 2, the family moved to Alvin, Texas to run a dairy farm. In 1940 they moved back to the family farm in Wilmore. Wayne attended all 12 years of school at Wilmore. He played 6-man football, basketball and was involved in New Eden 4-H. After high school, he took on various jobs including farming, working at a grain elevator and driving a school bus.
Wayne met Viola Otte on a blind date in January 1954. They were married on July 10, 1954 when they eloped to Clayton, New Mexico. They lived in Wilmore before moving to Coldwater, Kansas where he worked at a gas station until September 1957. During that time, daughters Cindy and Dawn were born. In September 1957 the family moved to Herington, Kansas and he started work as a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad and was promoted to Conductor in 1965. Greg and Teresa were added to the family while living in Herington. He later worked for the Southern Pacific, retiring from the Union Pacific July 24, 1998 after 41 years. After retirement, Wayne and Viola enjoyed dancing, traveling, and taking family vacations. They continued to live in Herington until 2024 when they moved to Salina.
Wayne joined Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on January 10, 1960. He served on the church Trustee board for several years.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Viola of 71 years, Salina; children Cindy Hubbard, Salina, Dawn Kerbs, Salina, Greg Hubbard (Darlene), Lincolnville, and Teresa Anders, Wellington; grandchildren Jonathan Shinn, Jared Shinn (Katherine), Bret Anders (Tamara), Eric Anders (Jessie), Trichia Penner (Bob), Megan Pauls, Jacob Jennings (Millicent), Justine Farris (Don); great grandchildren Alec, Sophia, Olivia and Camilla, Warren, Odette, Bianca and Vance, Dezirae, Katherine and Myra; Olivia and Delilah and Raylyn.
Wayne passed away April 22, 2026 at his home in Salina. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Esther Jordan, brothers Earl Hubbard and Ronald Hubbard.
Wayne’s funeral service will be held Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 11:00AM, May 1st, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington. He will be laid to rest at the Lincolnville Cemetery, Lincolnville, Kansas. Memorial contributions in Wayne’s name may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
