Galen Alex Schneider, 87, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Junction Post Acute Nursing Home in Herington, Kansas. Galen was born on October 20, 1938, in Ramona, Kansas, to Alex and Alice (Bliss) Schneider. He was one of seven siblings. He attended high school in Lost Springs, Kansas, and graduated with the Class of 1957. On June 30, 1963, Galen married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Bryant), at the Presbyterian Church in Herington. Together they shared nearly 63 years of marriage. Galen worked as a railroad conductor throughout his career. He enjoyed fishing and was actively involved with the Coffey County Saddle Club for many years, participating in team penning and working with his beloved horse, Molly, for more than 30 years. He loved watching old Western movies and wrestling on television. Galen also enjoyed making Christmas candy, especially peanut clusters. He and his brothers were known for their mischievous nature and their ability to have a good time together. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Alice Schneider; brothers Norman Schneider, Darrel Schneider, and an infant brother; grandchild Damien; and sister-in-law Jean Schneider. Galen is survived by his wife, Patricia Schneider; sons Alan (Julie) Schneider of Burlington and James Schneider of Herington; grandchildren Hailey Brophy of Chapman, Jacob Schneider, Emily (Alec) Smith of Burlington, and Braden Harvey of Le Roy; great-granddaughter Ryan Rae Smith of Burlington; siblings Betty (Myron) Kline of Lincolnville, Lonnie Schneider of Herington, Gary Schneider of Herington, and Karen (Dennis) Wendtlandt of Herington; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Speaker Diana Jost. Memorial contributions in Galen's honor may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Dickinson County Home Health.
