Glenn J. Kandt, 92, of Woodbine, Kansas, died at 4:55 PM Saturday at the home of his daughter, Colleen Neely from Chanute. Glenn was born November 30, 1930, to Herman and Sophia (Lawrenz) Kandt on the family farm near the Shady Brook community north of Herington. He had three older sisters, one of which is still living. Glenn went to the Shady Brook elementary school, then to Herington high school, and his senior year at Chapman high school. Glenn served as a Medic in the Army during the Korean war. He married Wilma Bowyer from Chapman on June 1,1952. Glenn worked in Wichita and Salina before returning to Woodbine to help with the family farm southwest of Woodbine. Glenn and Wilma had two children, Colleen Marie in 1953 and Kevin Eric in 1958. Glenn also worked as an electrician at Fort Riley, near Junction City, to supplement the farm income. Wilma passed away October 31,2O11, and Glenn continued to farm until his late 80's. Glenn is survived by his daughter Colleen Neely (Jim) from Chanute and their four children, Dr. Amber Neely, Wendy Phelps, Jay Neely, Britt Neely, and four grandchildren, his son Kevin from Berlin, Germany, his sister Erna Schlesener from the Hope area, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma, his parents, and two sisters, Flossie Walstrom Haire and Gladys Davis Blazier. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Glenn’s name may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shady Brook. The family will receive friends Friday from 9 to 10 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Shady Brook, and the funeral will be at 10, followed by the burial at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
