Helen Anita (Lenkner) Selsor

Helen (Lenkner) Selsor was born on November 27, 1932, in Coats, KS. She is the daughter of William and Sophie (Lang) Lenkner. She graduated from Deer Head High School. Helen was a farm woman and grew up farming and ranching in South Central Kansas. She was married to Gilbert Franklin Selsor and together they had five kids, they later separated. In the early sixties, Helen moved to Rose Hill, KS and worked for Cessna. In the eighties, when Helen’s parents became ill, she moved to Medicine Lodge and took a job at The Hereford House to help take care of her parents.  After sometime, Helen was able to move back to Rose Hill were her and her children started the local feed store called Stardust Feed Supply. Stardust Feed Supply started as a small operation hosted out of Helen’s barn, but later grew into a feed and giftshop with a storefront in Rose Hill. Helen and her family were members of Faith Lutheran Church in Derby while they were living in the Rose Hill area. They also attended Friends Church in Rose Hill.

Helen later moved to join family in Lincolnville, KS where she continued to raise sheep, goats, and llamas. Once moving to Lincolnville, Helen became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville. Helen loved raising her Schnauzer Puppies and would often bring them with her to Stardust Feed Supply. In her free time, Helen also enjoyed raising sheep and goats, and was a very avid vegetable gardener. She was a member of 4-H were she was a leader for 15 years. She also spent her time quilting and sewing doll clothes and was a major contributor to the Rose Hill Fall Festival.

Helen is survived by her children: Sherry Nelson, Forrest Selsor, Judy Watson, John Selsor, Darrel (Monica) Selsor; son-in-law Eric Roof; grandchildren: Rusty. Brett (Nicole) Kilgore, Lacey (Andy) Miller, Jeremy (Sarah) Watson, Stephanie Watson, Ashton Selsor, John Michael Roof; great-grandchildren: Maddex, Rhys, Karlie, Dalton, Waylon, Tucker, and Nolan; and sister-in-law: Peggy Lenkner.

Helen, at the age of 90, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Wheat State Manor, Whitewater, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents: William and Sophie; daughter: Nicki Roof; daughter in law: Linda Selsor; grandson: Christopher Roof; and brother Walter Lenkner. Memorial Service for Helen will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville. A Celebration of Life will also be held for Helen on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Rose Hill Senior Center from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Inurnment to follow at Friends Cemetery, Rose Hill, KS.  Memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, or to the Rose Hill Historical Society (4-H) Building.
