James Robert Dougherty

Still working out getting this posted... it's seems like forever. For now I'll put it here. James Robert Dougherty 4-24-1947 to 1-1-2026 Jim Dougherty has gone ahead of us to scout the best scenic routes in heaven: Son, Brother, Father (Dad), Uncle, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Friend, and drinking buddy, lineman for the county (before Glen Campbell’s song), equipment operator, firefighter (even made fire chief 1 year), fisherman, bow hunter, pool shark, daredevil, motorcycle enthusiast, knight in shining armor and best dam drunk driver you ever met… Died suddenly and unexpectedly on New Year’s Day like a rock star. Final ride complete, he rides off into the sunset for the last time. May he rest in peace. Born in California Jim grew up in Kansas. As a union electrician he rose the ranks and eventually worked as the head of a public works department in Colorado. He had a knack for determining value and showed it regularly at auctions and estate sales both as a buyer and as a seller. As an avid motorcyclist, Jim would want you to know that he never actually got lost, he was just 'exploring' on his motorcycle. In his younger days he raced motorcycles in river runs and cross country. Jim shot pool with the best of them (once nicknamed affectionately “Colorado Fatso”), he spent a ton of time at the card tables playing poker, and he always had time to lend a friend helping hand. Motorcycles weren’t his only love… His favorite candy was tootsie rolls by the handful, he fished in every state he traveled to or through, loved cheeseburgers from all the best cafes, and chocolate ice cream by the ½ gallon. But he lived, loved, and always seemed to have a motorcycle. From a Triumph to a Harley and a Maiko to a Honda he spent a huge amount of time with his boots on the pegs or in the breeze. He could drive anything with wheels forwards, backwards, and sideways. He left such an impression on people all over the country that he will be noticeably missed for many years to come and remembered fondly by those who knew him well. A biker never dies, he just finds new roads… Maybe gold streets, maybe asphalt ablaze, but with a grin a mile wide. He is preceded in death by 5 out of 6 wives, his mom Ivon, his dad Dale, (father Alvin), Brother John and Sister Sandy. He leaves behind 1 Sister Alice; his Sons Mark and Jason; Daughters Cindy and Stacey; Grandchildren Jake, Brandon, Cody, Deanna, Addison, Isaac, Caleb, and Abigail; Great Grandchildren Reis, Ryen, Elijah, Elizabeth, Novaleigh, and Bentlee; nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and far too many friends to list. I am very sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone. He touched a number of hearts. So if you hear thunder at night, it’s just Dad revving his engine in the sky. May we all remember his jovial smile, sarcastic wit, and celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of donations I think he would prefer to have his friends and family join together in a celebration of life every year for a poker run or BBQ on his birthday. If we can put together the logistics (and if it generates enough interest) we’ll try for 2027. If anyone has any pictures of Jim they would like to share (especially on two wheels) please email them to Mark % 420Celt@Gmail.com Rest in peace Dad.
