Joyce May Freed

Joyce’s life began on June 27, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas. She is the daughter of Robert and Alice (Brown) McCarty. Joyce is a 1967 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Joyce was united in marriage to Ronald Lee Freed on December 18, 1984, in Abilene, Kansas.

Joyce was a bus driver for the Herington School District and did custodial work for the middle school in Junction City, Kansas. Joyce was also a truck driver and enjoyed driving her trike motorcycle. In her free time, Joyce loved watching Country Western TV Shows and enjoyed The Golden Girls and John Wayne. She was also a member of the Herington VFW Auxiliary but most of all, Joyce loved spending quality time with her family.

Joyce’s family includes her children; Robert “Mo” Mowry and wife Victoria, Robert Harold and wife Dawn; grandchildren: Samantha, Dallas, Skyler, Robert, and Thomas; several great grandchildren, and siblings; Roberta Lopez, and Kenneth McCarty.

Joyce, at the age of 74, passed away at her home in Herington, Kansas, on December 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband; Ronald, and parents; Robert and Alice.

Joyce’s family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington, Kansas. Funeral Service for Joyce will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas.
