Larry’s life began on December 13, 1940, in Beloit. He was the son of John and Cleo (Wilson) Loomis, living on a farm near Ionia. Larry was a 1959 graduate of Jewell High School where he participated in all sports. Larry attended Kansas State University, pitching for the Wildcats, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He then moved to Arizona where he worked for several years as an engineer for various companies. Most importantly, while in Phoenix, he met Randee (a “very cute girl,” in his words), a Kansas girl also working in Arizona, when they lived in the same apartment building. They were united in marriage in 1966 at the Methodist Church in Marysville. After working in engineering, Larry earned his MBA from Arizona State University and accepted a job offer to move back to Kansas and work in banking. They came to Marion after a few years in Wichita and made Marion home for the next 26 years. Larry first worked as vice president then eventually president of Marion National Bank until his retirement in 2003. Larry was an avid golfer and loyal K-State fan. He was the grillmaster for their tailgating group. He was a rules official for the Kansas Golf Association, working high school, college, and KGA events. Larry volunteered at the Konza Prairie Biological Station guiding students and enthusiastically participated in Manhattan Catbackers. Larry is survived by his loyal loving wife of almost 60 years Randee of Overland Park; children Ashley (Andy Tate) Loomis of Minneapolis, MN, and Brian (Reina) Loomis also of Overland Park; grandsons Evan and Colin Loomis, kitties Ebony and Cinder, sister Donna and brother Jim and their families. Larry passed away on January 17, 2026, surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerry and Jack. The family will gather with friends on Tuesday January 20, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion, Kansas. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 21, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be directed to the Kansas State University Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
