Leland’s life began on October 14, 1931, in Goessel.  He is the son of Art and Linda (Buller) Heidebrecht.  Leland is a 1949 graduate of Newton High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korea War, stationed in Germany.  He was united in marriage to Kay Swan on September 13, 1958, in Wichita and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her death in 2015. 

 

Leland was the owner of Quality Market in Marion for many years.  He also managed Harris Bail Bonds, and Auto Mart in Marion with his friend Gerry Harris. Leland also worked for the funeral home in Marion for several years, helping to care for community families in their time of need.  Leland was active in the Kiwanis Club in Marion, and he served on the zoning board for the City of Marion.  Leland served on the Marion Lake Board and ran the fishing derby at the reservoir for many years. 

 

He is survived by his sons Scott (Rolana) Heidebrecht of Marion, and Dale (Christine) Heidebrecht of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren Tyson (Jessica) Heidebrecht of Omaha, Justin (Nikki) Heidebrecht of Topeka, Taylor (Erika) Heidebrecht of Emporia, Peyton (Courtney Haynes) Heidebrecht of Hillsboro, and Evann Heidebrecht of Marion; great grandchildren Brendon, Emery, Gunner and Kayda Heidebrecht,; brother in law and sister in law Paul and Kathy Swan, brother in law Don Steppe and several nieces and nephews. 

 

Leland passed away on Saturday February 4, 2023, at Peabody Health and Rehab.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Orville Heidebrecht, and sister Sadie Price. 

 

His family will gather with friends on Monday February 6, 2023, at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion.  Leland’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 7, 2023, at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Jeremiah Lange.  He will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery with military honors.
