Lois Mae (Remmers) Hayes was born on October 26, 1944, to Earl and Alta Mae (Stamp) Remmers in Florence, Kansas. She was the only daughter with five brothers. Lois passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion, Kansas.
Lois went to Florence High School and graduated from the class of 1962. Lois did attend some college where she received her CPA. On September 18, 1976, Lois married Jack Hayes at the Florence Christian Church in Florence, Kansas. During the years Lois owned a liquor store in Lincolnville, Kansas, worked on taxes, she also worked for Cook, Flatt & Strobel Engineering as a highway construction inspector, and worked in retail at True Value in Salina, Kansas. Her main passion was bowling and spending time with her family, Lois was an avid bowler, loved shooting pool, and enjoyed being outside on warm days working in the yard or garden. Lois started bowling in the mid 70’s and continued throughout most of her life in Marion, Herington and Salina. A few special moments she celebrated were getting the grand duchess at state bowling and bowler of the year while bowling in Salina.
She is survived by her five children, Kelly (Marty) Bell of Burdick, Bonnie (Dave) Hastings of Gentry Arkansas, Sherri Pankratz of Lincolnville, Fred Hayes of Lincolnville and Shane (Jody) Hayes of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Her brothers; Kenneth Remmers of Lincolnville, Eugene Remmers of Lincolnville, and Duane Remmers of Lincolnville. Her sister-in-law, Karen Remmers of Wichita. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and very many nieces and nephews!
Lois was proceeded in death by her husband, Jack Hayes, companion, Jerry Davis, parents, two brothers, Alvin and Warren Remmers and her beloved grandson Calvin Riggs.
In honor of Lois’s love for the Kansas City Chiefs, guests are encouraged to wear Chiefs football themed clothing.
Yazel-Megli Funeral Homes will be hosting the family for a Celebration of Life on September 11, 2026, from 10:00am -12:00 at Yazel-Megli Funeral home in Marion, Kansas. At 10:30 we will have a small service then continue with the celebration. A private burial will be held later for immediate family members. Please take a moment and leave a memory of Lois in her online guest book at www.yazelmeglifh.com. Memorial contributions can be made out in Lois’s name to Good Shepherd Hospice.
