Lou’s life began on January 10, 1940, in St. Louis, MO, as the son of Robert V. and Marian E. (Schilling) Voelker. He attended high school in East St. Louis and started working at his father’s metal plating shop at the age of 14. Lou continued with the family business and later founded his own metal finishing company, L. Voelker Plating Works in the late 1960’s. He lived in East St. Louis, and Littleton, CO in his early years. On November 15, 1969, he married Anna Maria Segobiano in Littleton, CO. The couple moved their family to Wichita, KS for several years before settling in Florence, KS in 1988.He was a faithful Catholic and parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence. Lou was a frequent customer of the Town and Country Café in Florence and was a cherished member of the community. He is survived by his children Christine Parks of Johnstown, OH, Deanna ( Rob) Saba of Medina, OH, Nancy ( Alan) Heckart of Omaha, NE, Martin (Christa) Voelker of Raymore, MO, Father Nicholas Voelker, KHS of Wichita, Dominic Voelker of Hutchinson, Maria (Tom) West of Shawnee, KS and Eric (Jeanne-Renée Butler) Voelker of Grapevine, TX; grandchildren Aly (Luke), Philip, Eva, Grace, Ben, Jessica, Alyson, Abby, Anastasia, John, William and Emily; his brother Jim (Caryl Ann) Voelker of Grand Junction, CO, sister-in-law Ruth Voelker of Highland Springs, CO. and several nieces and nephews. Lou passed away at his home on Wednesday June 11, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna, and siblings Robert, John, William, Thomas, Sr. Marian, and Guy Voelker and Teresa Anagnospopulos. His family will gather with friends on Tuesday June 17, 2025, from 4-6 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. Vigil rites and a Rosary service will be held on Tuesday June 17, 2025, at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen where he will be laid to rest in the Pilsen Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Lou’s name may be directed to the Father Kapaun Legacy Fund in care of the funeral home. Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Lou at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
