Pete’s life began on July 10, 1935, near Delavan, Kansas. He was the son of Harold and Alma (Putnam) Siegrist. Pete graduated from Wilsey High School and worked in railroad construction most of his working life and Neosho Construction before retirement. He enjoyed working and traveled all over the country, notoriously bringing home an armadillo from the Southwest.
Though his professional life involved much travel and excitement, Pete was always eager to return to what he held most dear: his family, his church community, and his beloved garden. He was united in marriage to Deloris May on July 3, 1956, who preceded him in death. Their long life together was a testament of love, strength and commitment for many.
Pete is survived by his loving children, Marla (Brian) Sheppard of Ramona, Vicki (Dean) Kinzie of Macksville, KS and Jeffrey Siegrist of Herington. He leaves behind a profound legacy that includes 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The home Pete and Deloris created together was truly an oasis for the entire family. Outside, the yard boasted a bountiful garden, a meticulously manicured lawn, a treasured crab apple tree and a homemade tetherball pole. Inside, the comforting smell of Sunday dinner, the warmth from the floor radiator and the joyful sounds of laughter filled every room.
Pete passed away at his home on Sunday July 20, 2025, just 10 days after celebrating his 90th birthday. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Deloris and his siblings Vernon Siegrist, Alvin Siegrist, Zeke Siegrist and Bea Albrecht.
His family will gather with friends on Friday July 25, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home in Herington. His memorial service will be held on Saturday July 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Herington. The service will be livestreamed on facebook.com/firstchristianchurchherington for loved ones far away. He will be laid to rest with his wife, Deloris, in Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date.
