Mary Ellen Langenegger

Mary Ellen Gehring was born June 14, 1929 to Fred J.C. Gehring and Helen (Wedel) Gehring, beginning her life on a farm near McPherson. The family later moved and eventually settled in the Summit community northwest of Burns. Mary attended and graduated from Burns High School, where she met and fell for her future husband.  Mary graduated in 1947 and was united in marriage to Cecil Langenegger on June 5, 1949, at First Mennonite Church of Burns (now Burns Countryside Church).

Mary’s love of farm life served her well as the family farm they settled on in 1949 would be her home for the next 70 years. Mary and Cecil were blessed with three sons, after which Mary joyfully spent her life in service to her children and later grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren. Although family consumed her days Mary’s first and greatest love was always her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She served alongside so many family and friends in years of Kingdom work through First Mennonite Church of Burns.

Mary leaves a legacy of her three sons, Greg (Zeola) Langenegger of Newton, Gary Langenegger of Newton, Glenn (Daytha) Langenegger of Burns; 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. Her brother Jim Gehring resides in Moundridge. Waiting to greet her at Jesus’ feet were her husband Cecil, her parents, her sister Joyce Kyle, and one grandchild.

Her family will remember her 93 years with friends at a service and burial at Burns Countryside Church, 11:00 Saturday, January 14. Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater is serving the family. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Harry Hynes Hospice or Burns Countryside Church. Please sign her online guest and leave a memory of Mary at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
