Mary Lou Spencer

Mary Lou’s life began on October 2, 1934, the daughter of Robert Chalmer and Gladys Elizabeth (Whigham) Manes in Villisca, Iowa. She graduated from Elmo High Class of 1952 in Elmo, Missouri and attended the University of Iowa. She married Charles Leonard Spencer on January 11, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. Mary Lou worked at St. Francis and St. Joseph Hospitals in Wichita as a hematology medical technician for 55 years. She was a member of Hope Christian Church in Wichita. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She loved NASCAR, collecting dolls and sewing doll clothes.

Her loving family includes her sons, Chuck Spencer (Ellen) of Potwin, Kansas, Robert Spencer of Andover, Roger Spencer (Liz) of Andover; 8 grandchildren, Darci Bascombe (Ben), Stephanie Tempongko (Emil), Jenny Chisam (Will), Teva, Shawn, Alyssa, Adrian and Aja Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles in 1990; sisters, Maxown Bates and Mona Lea Manes. Mary Lou passed away peacefully into her Savior’s arms on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the age of 87 years old.

Her family will gather to greet friends on Wednesday, January 26, from 5-7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. both at Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S. Main, Whitewater, Kansas. Interment will follow at Bruno Township Cemetery in Andover.
