Norma Jean Woerz

Norma’s life began on October 13, 1929, in Marion.  She was the daughter of Claude and Vera (Thomas) Province.   She is a graduate of Marion High School in 1947 and worked briefly as a telephone operator before she was married.   Norma was united in marriage to Harold Woerz on March 27, 1949, in Marion.  She was a lifelong member of the Marion Christian Church and the Christian Woman’s Fellowship.  She was an avid bridge and pinochle player and a huge fan of the KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.  Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Jay (Becky) Woerz of Emporia, Rae Jean (Jeff) Woerz-Commerford of Americus, Diane (Steve) Sams of Marion and Cyndi Woerz of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Amy (Ty) Sober, Jody Britt, Jerrod (Rupel) Commerford, Cody (Libby) Nelson, Cory (Emma) Nelson, Casey (Javyn) Nelson, Lauren Ghighi, Emma Ghighi, Tyler (Courtney) Sams and Erica ( Mark) Folcik; and great grandchildren Houston, Dietra, Devon, Ayden, Rope, Tripp, Tandice, Miles, Graham, Caylen, Saylor and Kenzie. Norma passed away on Thursday May 9, 2024, at St. Luke’s Living Center.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Dorothy and Vera Belle and two brothers Ben and Junior.  Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday May 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Marion Christian Church for her memorial service led by Pastor Carl Helm.   She will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.  Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Marion Christian Church.
