Norman J. Miller

Norman Jon Miller, age 67, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at St John Hospital in Leavenworth, KS.  Norman was a graduate of Hillsboro High School – Special Education Program in 1975.  After graduating from High School, Norman attended Vocational Rehabilitation Unit in Topeka learning work skills.  After completion, he returned to his home in Durham, KS living with his parents while working at Associated Milk Producers in Hillsboro performing odd jobs and janitorial duties from 1976 until 1985; at which time he was forced to resign from his job due to declining abilities.  He worked around Hillsboro and Durham performing odd jobs such as mowing lawns, raking leaves, shoveling snow, etc.  In February 1987 he moved to Newton, KS and began working with ResCare of Newton (formerly Northview).   During his time living at Newton, he could be seen riding his bicycle or walking all over town with his lawnmower – spending many hours at McDonalds and Caring Place.  He worked multiple jobs while at ResCare until May 2022 when he was moved to Peabody Health Rehabilitation due to declining health.

Norman enjoyed listening to Alan Jackson country music and religious songs, along with reading his Bible throughout the day.  Norman found a lot of comfort in his faith and had many Bibles in his collection.

Preceded in death by his parents LaVern and Margaret (Eck) Miller.  He is survived by brother Marlin (Nancy) Miller, and two sisters, Ruth Ann (Alfred) Monares, and Marlene (Bob) Herzet, and numerous nieces and nephews.  His Funeral Service will be held at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Saturday July 22nd at 10 a.m. with Reverend Tim Kraft officiating. Norman will be laid to rest in Durham Park Cemetery, Durham.  If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Peabody Health and Rehabilitation, 407 N. Locust St., Peabody, Kansas 66866.  or Immanuel Baptist Church, 1515 N. Anderson Ave., Newton, Kansas 67114.
