Richard Ott

Richard’s (Rick’s) life began on March 2, 1938, in El Monte, CA. He passed away on January 26, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, SC. Rick was the son of Marcellous Newton Ott and Lela Mae Richardson. His mother passed away a few months after his birth and he was raised by his father and stepmother Francis Louise (Albin) Ott in Sabetha, KS. After graduating from high school and attending Kansas State University for a semester, Rick moved to Wichita in 1957 and worked as an appliance repairman with General Electric. He was united in marriage to Doris J. Mueller on April 28, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tampa, KS. The young couple resided in Wichita and eventually started up, owned and operated Rick’s Appliance Service in May of 1964 and the business continues his legacy today. Although they remained heavily involved in Rick’s Appliance, Rick and Doris moved to Golden, MO. in 1987, and eventually spent winters in Mission, Tx. In Golden, where they were members of Peace Lutheran Church of Shell Knob. They enjoyed life at Table Rock Lake, especially gardening, boating activities including water skiing, and volunteering for various church events. In Mission they were active with many of their communities social events. Throughout his life, Rick was very giving of his time with a smile, a sense of humor, instruction, and direction. Rick took much joy at Rick’s Appliance Service managing and training his employees in appliance repair and sales of parts and appliances. He acted as a consultant for many appliance manufacturers warranty service policies. He spent many hours volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. Rick had a hand in preparing and serving many soup/chili suppers as fundraisers for various community causes and he loved to bake, play cards and dance. One of his greatest joys was his family which includes his son Darryl Ott and daughter Brenda (Todd) Devaney; granddaughter Christina (Rick) Nelson and two great grandchildren Theodore and Nora Nelson, and brothers Joe (Carol) Ott, Steve (Karen) Ott, David Ott, and sister Margaret (Steve) Kanel. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Martha Ann Ott and Marsha (Bruce) Garren. Rick’s family will gather with friends on Friday February 6, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church (1000 W. 26th St S. Wichita) for his memorial service followed by a luncheon in his honor. Rick will be laid to rest in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Tampa, KS at 2:30 that afternoon. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion, KS is serving the family.
