Thelma was a 1955 graduate of Lincolnville High School and went on to beautician school in Wichita. She met Harold W. Ulmer at a dance in Marion in 1957, and they were married September 21, 1958. Harold passed away July 16, 1986.
Thelma was a very mild manner graceful woman. She lived a very simple lifestyle loving her cats and watching her polka music station and nostalgic TV shows. She was a homemaker, beautician, and a musician. Thelma was a hairdresser working in the beauty shop at Wheat State Manor for about 15 years.
She and her family spent many weekends on the road performing their old-time polka music for their “The Ulmer Brothers” band. They played for local weddings, anniversaries as well as in many band competition performances all up and down in the Midwest states. Thelma was credited with playing the piano and keeping the boys in line. The stories they have are many. Her son’s, Rex and Sid, were the leaders of the band. Not only could Thelma play the piano, but she also taught her boys how to cut a rug, as so to speak, and they both still enjoy dancing.
Thelma enjoyed and was also talented at painting flowers and birds. She painted glassware and pitcher sets and was the local hairdresser for many years. She was an accomplished cook and was dead shot on target with a shotgun. She was known to shoot a few blue rocks before the many blue rock tournaments that Buck (Sid) had on the farm and intimidate many of the participants. Some would ask Buck if his mom was shooting, cause if she was, they did not want to shoot against her. She would then hand Buck the shotgun and go back to frying up the chickens she had ready to cook for their meal after the tournament was over. She was also well known for her seasonal pepper nut sales and they were delicious.
Thelma married Harold Wayne Ulmer on September 21, 1958, in the Methodist church in Marion Kansas. To this reunion they had two sons, Rex Wayne and Sidney (Buck) Raymond Ulmer. They lived on the farm outside of Whitewater and raised their family. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Harold on July 16th,1986, her father and Mother, Alvin and Verna Belle (Bass) loveless, brother Ervin (Mike)Loveless, sister Bessie Loveless and stepson Pat Green. She married Robert (Bob) Green on May 10th, 1989. Bob also preceded Thelma in death on August 15th, 2008.
Thelma is survived by her two sons, Rex (Ginger) Ulmer of Glenwood Tx, and Sidney (Suzann) Ulmer of Leon Ks, and stepchildren, Nathaniel (Banjo) Green, Thaddeus (Missy) Green, Stacy (Danny) Bell all of Whitewater Ks and Tracy Roth of Newton.
