William Gene Lutes

William Gene Lutes, 89, died May 26, 2026 at Andover Life Care in Andover, Kansas. William was born on September 11, 1936 in Whiteland, Indiana to Vernon Ray Lutes and Ruby Donell Combs. He was one of four children having two brothers and a sister.

He attended the Whiteland, Indiana High School and graduated with the class of 1954.

William was a contractor for Hubert Hunt Nickel Construction doing government contracts to build roads. He owned B & B Traveland and started the business in 1968. William was involved for 40 years as an owner and RV Salesperson. He was also a member of the American Legion in Whitewater, enjoyed gardening, playing baseball as a catcher, hunting, fishing, bird hunting, trained and showed dogs.

He married Danna Ruth (Hughey) Lutes on January 18, 2000 in Whitewater, Kansas. They enjoyed a marriage of 26 years before his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers James and Robert Lutes.

Survivors include Danna Lutes of the home; sons Mark (Melanie) Lutes of Valley Center, Michael Lutes of Whitewater; daughter Susan (Kerry) Christian of New Whiteland, Indiana; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 30th from 9:00-10:00 at the Whitewater Community Church 703 E. Central Street, Whitewater, KS with family present. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 on Saturday following the visitation. Inurnment will be at the Whitewater Cemetery following the service. Lamb Funeral Home is serving the family.
