HERINGTON - Rayda Faye Higdon, of Herington, died Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018, at the Legacy of Herington. She was born November 18th, 1913 at Winfield. She was the daughter of Ray and Carrie (Hodges) Kanitz.
Graveside service will be 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 6th, 2018, at the Graceland Cemetery of Burlington, Kansas.
She was a graduate of Winfield High School. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church since 1960. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross on blood drive days.
She was married to Kenneth Ivan Deatrick and was later divorced. Her second marriage was to Homer Lee Higdon and he preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by a son, Richard Arlen Deatrick on December 31, 2016; three sisters, Margaret Crum, Melba Hill-Black, and Roberta Wheeler, a brother, Howard Kanitz; and her parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Roberts and her husband Jerald of Harrisonville, MO; a brother, Ernie Kanitz of Winfield; a daughter-in-law, Clarendene Deatrick of Herington; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and twelve great great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Herington; and may be sent in care of the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
