David William McBride

July 24, 1946 — July 30, 2018

HOPE - David William McBride, 72, of Hope, died Monday,  July 30th, 2018, at the Salina Regional Health Center.  He was born July 24th, 1946, at Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Cecil T. and Wilma May (Pumphrey) McBride.

Graveside committal services will be at 1:00pm, Wednesday, August 1st, 2018, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley, of Manhattan, with Rev. Shawn Baird, officiating.  Interment will follow with full military honors.

He graduated from High School in Lompec, CA.  He received a bachelor’s of science degree at Upper Iowa University.  He served in the U. S. Army for twenty-five years including two tours of duty to Vietnam.  He retired in 1992 as a master sergeant.  He received the bronze star and a purple heart.  He moved to Herington in 1991 and to Hope a short time later.  He was a member of the Dix Day Post #1281, VFW of Herington, American Legion of Hope, Carey R. McClaren, Post #12, American Legion of Herington, and the DAV.  He like fishing, hunting, and woodworking.  He enjoyed listening to the fifties and sixties music.  He loved to have his family get-togethers at his home and celebrating the holidays.                                              

He is preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Husky; and his parents.

He married Jerri Dike, November 7, 1980, at Ft. Gordon, of Augusta, Georgia.  She survives at the home in Hope.  He is also survived by a son, Phillip W. McBride (Melanie) of Penrose, Colorado; a daughter Christina L. McBride (John Ward) of Arkansas; two sisters, Elaine Collins of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Janet McBride of Drumright, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Bradon, Kimberly, Amanda, Brylon, Jacob, Patrick; and nine great grandchildren. 

The family requests memorials to the Dix Day Post# 1281, VFW of Herington; and they may be sent to;  Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
