HERINGTON - Obituary – Doris Joan Kuchar, 80

Doris was born May 9, 1938, in Herington, Kansas.  She was the daughter and only child of Fred and Florence (McCreath) Hedstrom.  She departed this life Sunday,  May 13, 2018, at her retirement home in Marion, KS. 

Memorial services will be, 10:30 am, Thursday, May 24th, 2018, at the Hebron Lutheran Church of Burdick, with Pastor Colleen Teeuwe and Pastor Norma Duerksen, officiating.  Burial will follow at the Hebron Lutheran Cemetery of Burdick.  Memorials have been designated to the Hebron Lutheran Church of Burdick, KS, or the Trinity Mennonite Church of Hillsboro, KS, and they may sent to the Zeiner Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038. 

Doris was baptized, confirmed, and a member at the Hebron Lutheran Church of Burdick.  She grew up on a farm east of Lincolnville and attended Bethel Grade School, Lincolnville Rural High School graduating with the class of 1956, and Bethel College in Newton.  She worked as dietary manager in special diets at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. She married George Kuchar in February of 1970 and lived in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota for a few years.  She was the cook for a custom harvest crew.  Doris and George divorced in 1982, and she moved to Hillsboro.  Doris moved into Marion Assisted Living in April 2016.  

Doris was an excellent seamstress and through the years she always had sewing and repair work to do for many clients.  She made many seasonal wall hangings which she appliqued and quilted.  She made all her own clothes, purses, totes, album covers, and many other items.  She appreciated healthy foods and simple meals.  She was a great resource for family history and kept up with cousins, aunts, and uncles and their children and grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by many cousins in Kansas, Texas, Colorado, and Oregon.  Byron Hedstrom (Jean) and Bruce Hedstrom (Alona) were in charge of her local arrangements.
