Dwayne Nickolas Stroda

December 6, 1927 — May 29, 2021

Dwayne’s life began on December 6, 1927, in Herington.  He was the son of Charles and Edith (Schuster) Stroda.  Dwayne is a 1946 graduate of Herington High School.  He was united in marriage to Delores M. Bezdek on May 1, 1954, in Marion.  Dwayne was a lifelong farmer and rancher in rural Herington.  He was a parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church in Herington and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Dwayne was a member of the Farm Bureau and the US Custom Harvesters Association.  He loved spending time with his friends over coffee at the coffee shop and enjoyed creating metalworks.  Dwayne was a people person, he never knew a stranger and genuinely loved people.  He enjoyed card club and supper club and loved to travel. Dwayne and Delores traveled to Hawaii on an anniversary trip, and to nearly all 50 states. He and Delores also enjoyed bus trips to the casino with friends.  He enjoyed his family and family reunions.  Dwayne’s loving family includes his children Darrell (Laurie) Stroda of Pratt, Chuck (Kim) Stroda of Abbottstown, PA, Pat (Kathryn) Carpenter of Oceanside, CA and Mary (Gordon) Schroeder of Herington, and son in law Bill Suenram of Salina; his grandchildren Hayley ( Tony) Ferris, Nick Suenram, Ben Suenram, Sadie Suenram, Gordon M. (Mary) Schroeder, Jason (Lisa) Schroeder, Erik Schroeder, Matt Stroda, Lindsay (Tom) Schuurman, and Josh Carpenter; 20 great-grandchildren and his siblings Ralph Stroda, Oraina Schump, LaVada Holub, sister in law Rosemary Stroda and several nieces and nephews.  Dwayne passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Geary Community Hospital.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Delores, daughter Pam Suenram, and brother Dean Stroda.  His family will gather with friends on Friday, June 4th from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington where his Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 5th at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington led by Father Peter O’Donnell.  Dwayne will be laid to rest in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Herington.  Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Father Kapaun Legacy Fund or St. John’s Church.  Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Dwayne at www.ymzfh.com.
