Gertrude Joan Mahoney

Gertrude's life began on May 16, 1921 in Oil Hill, KS.  She was the daughter of Martin J. and Lula (Cullins) Waner.  She was united in marriage to Robert A Mahoney in Grand Island, NE in May of 1958.  Gertrude was a registered nurse, trained at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.  She worked for several doctors' offices in Nebraska and as a school nurse, camp nurse and private care nursing in her home.  Gertrude was an incredibly faithful Catholic.  She was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.  She was a member of the Legion of Mary and prayed the Rosary many times a day.  Gertrude enjoyed visiting the nursing homes and praying with the residents in Newton.  Her loving family includes her niece Lea (Larry) Schwart of Marion and many dear friends.  Gertrude passed away on October 26, 2020 at the Newton Medical Center.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert and many dear relatives.  Her family will gather with friends on Friday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton.  Her Rosary service will be held at 10 a.m. at the church, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. led by Father Max Biltz.  Gertrude will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Florence.  Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.  Memorial Masses may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton or Holy Family Parish in Marion.  Please sign her online guestbook and leave a memory of Gertrude at www.ymzfh.com.
