Kathryn Mae Lunderman

May 1, 1925 — July 20, 2018

Marion- Kathryn Mae Lunderman, 93, peacefully passed away Friday July 20th, 2018 at the Salina Regional Medical Center in Salina, Kansas.  She was the fourth of five children born to John Tillman and Cora Bell Boitnott Webster in Quinter, Kansas, on May 1st, 1925.  She attended school in Quinter and graduated from high school in 1943. Kathryn moved to Wichita Kansas and went to work at Boeing as a riveter on the B29s and as a nail spitter.  She was proud of her service at Boeing.

She met Sterling Roy Lunderman while she was working at Boeing.  They were married November 26, 1944, shortly before Sterling reported to the Army Air Corp.  They made their home in LaRussell, Missouri, for two years when their first son, Karol Lee Lunderman, was born in Carthage, Missouri. They moved to Wichita, Kansas, and built a home at 1521 E. MacArthur Road where they had three more children, Duane, Les, and Joann.  They then lived in Fairfield, California, for two years working for Boeing.  They met many wonderful friends there. Ruby, her dear friend, came to see her on her last birthday May 1st this year.

In 1962, they moved to Marion, Kansas, where they took ownership of the Western Auto Store on Main Street.  Kathryn loved her family and was a wonderful homemaker; a seamstress (sewing anything from scrubs for her daughter, work shirts and suits for her sons, and prom dresses for granddaughters and a wedding dress for her daughter), a wonderful cook, a baker, and a candy maker. She loved her gardens and could be seen working in them often. She enjoyed going fishing with family. They retired in 1985 and spent the remaining years with each other and their family.  She developed many good friends in Marion and especially loved her neighbors; Edith Helmer, and Keith and MaryAnn Conyers. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and followed their lives with great pleasure.
