Kirk Greenemeyer

Kirk’s life began on June 22, 1960 in Herington.  He was the son of David “Dutch” and Mary Lou (Clore) Greenemeyer.  Kirk was a 1978 graduate of Herington High School, where he wrestled, played football, and baseball.  He was an engineer on the Union Pacific Railroad and loved to drive trains.

Kirk was well known for being hilarious and having the brightest smile. He loved his kids and grandkids. Kirk coached his children in wrestling, baseball and football.  Kirk was a Chief’s fan, the KU Jayhawks and the LA Dodgers.  He was a fisherman and enjoyed playing golf.

Kirk’s greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Valarie Greenemeyer of Herington; children Kaleb Greenemeyer of Kansas City, Lindsey Greenemeyer of Kansas City, James Murphy of Herington, Daniel Murphy of Greenville, NC, and Cecelia Murphy of Abilene; grandchildren Kaidyn and Adilynn Greenemeyer and Brayden and Weston Risinger; his siblings Leslie (Colleen) Greenemeyer of Salina, Tony Greenemeyer of Salina and Tracy (George) Trego of Princess Anne, MD.

Kirk passed away on March 13, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Tina Greenemeyer and granddaughter Fiona Murphy.

His family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington.  His Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m.  Kirk will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County.  Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Kirk at www.ymzfh.com.

Growing up on Franklynn Street would have never been the same without Kirk! He was always agreeable to let "us girls" play tag football when he took a lot of flack for it from the other boys on the block. He helped to coach both my boys in wrestling and was a good influence in their lives. RIP my friend.

Please accept sincere and heartfelt condolences from Berylene Brockmeier and the Brockmeier family. Our family was friends with the Greenemeyers, and Berylene and Herb enjoyed their long friendship with Dutch and Mary Lou and the Greenemeyer clan. God bless you all, and may Kirk rest well in his Heavenly home.
