Liz Shields

January 6, 1924 — November 27, 2018

               Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Shields (Miller), 94, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2018. Liz was born on January 6, 1924, to Paul and Allie (Roper) Miller in Gage, Oklahoma. She attended a small one-room grade school and graduated from high school in Arnett, Ok. Liz met Maurice in junior high school, and they married on September 24th, 1943. In September 2018 they celebrated 75 years of marriage.

                Liz's hobbies included painting, arts and crafts, bridge and traveling. She loved painting family homestead pictures, flowers, and many holiday decorations. She and Maurice played bridge many afternoons and evenings, and she continued her Salina bridge group many years after moving to Wichita. Maurice and Liz traveled the U.S., abroad, and went on many cruises.

                Liz was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Pauline Ledgerwood, Betty Ainsworth, Naomi Erick, and son; Larry.

                She is survived by her husband, Maurice, two sons: M.D. Shields and Randy (Jocelyn) Shields, two grandchildren: Lore (Kerby) Case and Taylor Shields, two great-grandchildren: Kortnei (Peter) Kirby and Josh Downey, and two great-great-granddaughters: Madisyn Tillett and Pyper Kirby.

                Visitation will be held at Lamb Mortuary, Sunday, December 2nd, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 3rd at the Federated Church. Memorial is to the Federated Church, Whitewater, Kansas.
