Betty, my heart is broken. I saw that you also lost Dick just a month later. My memories of Michael are numerous, and all fill my heart with joy. It was a delight to call him my friend at Bethany. It was a privilege to be welcomed into your home and I cannot eat a bierock without thinking of you teaching me to make them, and I was so glad to see both You and Dick at my wedding. I talked to Michael on the phone when I was on a trip to NYC and we tried to meet -- but schedules wouldn't allow it. We lost touch over the decades... but is friendship has always been a treasure. My time in Lindsborg would not have been as rich without him. Kathy (Sanderson) Hays

Hello, My name is Kathy. I am a nursing student who spent numerous nights with Michael during his last two weeks of life in the hospital, here in New York. No matter the time, Michael never failed to exude gentleness and kindness. I spent time with him, asking him about his life and allowing him to highlight all the wonderful people he knows and was close to. He spoke beautifully and tenderly about his two loving parents, family, and friends. He made sure to tell me that he truly loved you all. He missed you all so dearly, I assured him that you all missed him too. I prayed with Michael in his room, held his hand, and made sure he was in comfort. Michael was truly special, I will never forget him and his kind eyes. His memory lives on.

I have been so blessed to be your God Mother! I will forever cherish all the many special memories of the wonderful and special times we shared together. I will always remember all the hot fudge sundaes we enjoyed together! One of the most precious and awesome gifts you gave me was my red teapot purse. It is a very special treasure to me and everyday when I see it, I see you! There are so many other wonderful memories that I have of you, Mike. You always have been such a kind, caring, and loving person. Your precious smile and special laugh have been a strength and encouragement to me. There will always be a a very special place for you in my heart! I miss you so very much. You have filled my life with love and many blessings. Blessings until we meet again. Aunt Elaine

I was in some plays with Mike at Buhler High School. He played an unforgettable Max in The Sound of Music. I wasnt sure if if accidentally or intentionally made a grand entrance at the Von Trapps dance with his white shirt sticking out of his fly. I remember a cast party at his house with tostadas and a big water fight. I didnt keep in touch with Mike after graduation, but I remember him as a delightful friend.

I was a classmate of Mikes at BHS. We were in theatre productions together. I loved his laugh and he seriously was always smiling. So many stories and memories with Mr Chipman and the theatre gang. I'm sure he made quite a big entrance into heaven. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
