Lola Mary Metcalfe
WHITE CITY - Lola “Sue” Metcalfe, 75
Lola Mary Metcalfe, formerly of White City, died Thursday, February 8th, 2018, at the Salina Regional Health Center. She was born on May 18, 1942, the second born child of Vern L. and Lorena (Decker) Estes. Her brother Walter Estes was the big brother, and following Lola was her sisters, Carol, Janet, Peggy, and the youngest brother, Vern.
She went to the Garner School, (a one room school house), and graduated from White City High School in 1960. She married Benny L. Metcalfe, August 26, 1960, at Council Grove. They were the parents of two daughters, Angel and Bennie; and a son, Milton.
She liked to read autobiographies, collecting antiques, and researching genealogy. She was crafty and liked needlepoint and playing BINGO at V.F.W. of Herington and the casinos. Rodeos were fascinating to her and she thought the bull riding was the best.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Walter Estes in 1999; a sister, Carol Price in 2002, her father, Vern Estes in 1998, and her husband, Benny in 2009.
She is survived by a son, Milton Metcalfe of Herington; two daughters, Angel Harold (Johnney) of Hope, Bennie Wallace of White City; her mother, Lorena Estes of Council Grove; one brother, Vern “Tinker” Estes of White City; two sisters, Janet Gaither of Joplin, Peggy Barber of White City; seven grandchildren, Clayton Kidd, Clinton Kidd, Caleb Kidd, Bill Wallace, Megan Wallace, Jonathan Wallace, Heather (Metcalfe) Kimery; and 15 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2:00PM, Friday, February 16th, 2018, at the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington, with Rev. Darrell Geist, officiating. Following the service, there will be a reception at Uncle Bob’s Bowling Alley in Herington.
The family requests memorials to the American Lung Association; and they may be sent to; Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038
The Staff and Residents of Legacy of Herington deeply miss Sue. Bingo will never be the same without her and her Angel. Always joy filled her attitude. We are having a memorial for her at our facility Wednesday Feb. 21st at 10 am. All are welcome to join in prayer, stories and songs. God bless the family.
