Sue’s life began on September 4, 1944, in Hutchison. She was the daughter of Alva and Audrey (Colvin) Hysom. Sue was a 1962 graduate of Salina Central High School. She was united in marriage to John Utterback on June 5, 1965, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Salina.
Sue worked for most of her life as an administrative assistant for counseling and foster care organizations associated with United Methodist Youthville. The welfare and education of children was extremely important to Sue. She was also a talented cake decorator who created beautiful cakes for countless people’s special occasions. Sue enjoyed quilting, walking 5K events and playing in the bell choir. She especially enjoyed her family; they were her everything.
Her loving family includes her husband John Utterback of Salina; children Cindy Vargas of Salina, Sandy (Tom) Lampo of Thornton, CO, and Tim (Nicole) Utterback of Sayville, NY; Grandchildren Chantal (Adam) Rasnic, Chelsea (Dylan) Lefort , Grace Vargas, Keagan Lampo, Kailey ( Brandon) Moen, Racheal ( Andrew) Cooper, Cierra (Steven) Hinwood, Sadie Utterback (Jonathon Chiansi), Ella Utterback, Evelyn Utterback and Jamison Dimas; Great-grandchildren Austin, Aylah, Kasyn, Aliyah, Maeve, Brooklyn, Creighton, Bradleigh, Beckett, Rhyatt, Aaron, Emberly, Mozya and one on the way; her mother Audrey Hysom of Salina, and siblings Steve (Arlene) Hysom of El Dorado, Sandy Hysom of Wichita, and Jerry Hysom of Salina.
Sue passed away on November 15, 2021, at Village Manor in Abilene. She is preceded in death by her father and three infant children. Sue’s family will gather with friends on Saturday December 4, 2021, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, Salina for her memorial service at 10 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Gypsum Hill Cemetery at a later time. Yazel-Megli Funeral Homes, Marion is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Sue’s name may be directed to Hospice of Dickinson County, the Alzheimer’s Association and Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
