John Douglas Morrisey

April 16, 1938 — March 11, 2017

EMPORIA  - John Douglas Morrisey, 78, of Emporia, known by most as “Doug”,  died Saturday, March 11th, 2017, at the Holiday Resorts in Emporia.  He was born April 16,  1938, in Clinton, OK, the son of Gerald Francis and Mary (Hayes) Morrisey.

Mr. Morrisey retired as a Bank Examiner of the Missouri State Saving & Loan in 1993, living in Washington, MO, when they moved to Emporia in 2000.  He begin his working at Kite’s in Aggieville, Manhattan, while in college.  Worked for IBM, and later worked at Capital City Bank in Topeka as Vice-President.  He graduated from Valley High School in St. Genevieve, MO, with the class of 1956.  He served in the U.S. Army prior to attending college at Kansas State; graduate from Kansas State University in 1969, with a degree in Psychology.

He married Sharon K. Biehler on June 22, 1963, at St. John’s Catholic Church; she survives of Emporia.  He is also survived by a son Gerald Morrisey of Emporia, a daughter Clare Morrisey of Austin, TX, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morrisey’s body was bequeathed to the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Herington.
